Biography and Awards
Dana Lee Thompson lives and paints in the countryside near Casanova, Virginia. She was born in
Washington, DC but grew up in Northern Virginia. She always had a love for animals, especially for dogs.
Dana left her previous career as a dental technician to pursue art full time in 2005. She has never looked
back. As an adult, she started fox hunting and immediately fell in love with the hounds. She captures the
essence and soul of each hound or animal she paints; whether its a commission of someone's beloved pet
or hounds laying around the kennel. Dana also has a fondness for birds and makes regular trips to
Florida for reference material.
Dana is mainly a self taught artist and has furthered her techniques through art books, workshops, and
perseverance. She has taken several workshops with fine artist and illustrator John Leone.
Dana paints not only large format paintings, but her miniatures are highly sought after by collectors. She
has won numerous awards and is an Associate member of the Society of Animal Artists,
Miniature
Painters Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington DC, The Association of Miniature Artists and the
Miniature Art Society of Florida.
Her work has been published in the Chronicle of the Horse, The Piedmont Virginian Magazine and the
recently published Master of the Foxhounds Centennial book. She has paintings in the permanent
collection at the AKC Museum of the Dog in St Louis, Missouri and a purchase to permanent collection
with the Miniature Art Society of Florida. Her work has also been selected for exhibit at the 50th
anniversary show of
the Society of Animal Artists in San Diego California, the Art Show at the Dog Show,
The Museum of Hounds and Hunting, The AKC Museum of the Dog, MASF and the MPSGS.
Dana has won numerous awards with both her miniatures and full size paintings, but also for her
exquisite photography.
She is represented by
Berkley Gallery in Warrenton, Virginia.
